Personal exploration on food recipe app.

SOMETIMES, I LIKE TO WORK ON A PROJECT THAT SOLVES A PROBLEM THAT I HAVE. SINCE I AM AN AVID HOME COOK, I WANTED TO CREATE A RECIPE APP THAT CAN HELP PEOPLE MAKE MONEY AND ALSO CURE CURIOSITIES ON FOOD.

Are you curious about what you are eating and its effects on body? As I’m getting older, I get more curious about what I eat and its effects on body. I have been an avid home cook for many years. And I love to document my creation and share it with people.

When I tried instagram to record recipes with step by step instructions, I soon realized that the instagram is not the best platform to create content around the recipe.

So the design journey began. What would an app look like that is fun to document recipes but also highly functional that can answer my curiosities around the food? And what if that app can help everyday home cook make extra income? Let’s find out.

This is a feed where Heal Meal sends out curated educational contents for users from the selection from the onboarding section.

SEARCH

Search section where you can find your favorite recipes.

RECIPE FEED

Main recipes feed page. The container shows preview of the entire recipes to draw attention.

Check recipe CTA will take you to clicked recipe landing page. Plus button on the bottom right corner will take you to a landing page where you start creating your recipes.

RECIPE LANDING

Recipe landing page. You can take a quick glance at ingredients for the recipe. You can increase portion and the ingredient amount is updated automatically. Buy CTA will take you to shopping page. Main CTA will take you to the recipe detail page.

RECIPE DETAIL

Here you can see a full bleed recipe contents that users can flip through from one step to another. You can collapse the navigation for cleaner viewing experience.

RECIPE CREATION ONBOARDING

Quick recipe creation onboarding. Camera feature is revealed upon tapping Got it CTA.

ADDING CAPTION

You can add caption with your voice or text after you are done taking video clip. Hitting Next Step CTA will trigger current clip to animate to left revealing photo/video UI screen where you can continue to record following steps of recipe.

PROGRESS BAR

Tapping three dots on the left top corner will reveal video clips that you’ve taken previously. Tap the thumbnails to review the clip and edit if desired.

PUBLISH RECIPE

Tap on the Publish CTA once you are done with taking desired recipe photo/video clips. That will bring up publish overview page where you can add list of ingredients and tags and more. After you publish recipe, you will be redirected back to feed page where you will see your post.

DASHBOARD

Profile/dashboard page where you can review the various stats.

RETROSPECTIVE

Even though this app currently stands as just an idea, I can still see myself using it on a daily basis. Food content is in a top 5 consumed contents on the web. Also, in Korea, we put a lot of emphasis on a concept of food as a medicine. I think this is somewhat less known concept in the western world and I believe there is potential market fit out there.

The success of TikTok also gave me bit more confidence because it reassured that people want to brag about their talents and share their creation. If Mukbang stars are making a bank on the videos of them eating, why not the people actually creating the food? When time comes, I will be doing something related to food. I just don't know what that might be just yet.

ROLE: EVERYTHING
